Who holds it: Kentucky State Treasury, Unclaimed Property Division

How long: No deadline. Unclaimed property is always available to the owner.

How you claim: Search through the Treasury's search page, then file the claim form with an original signature. Faxed or emailed forms are not accepted.

Steps

1. Search your name.
2. Request or complete the claim form.
3. Mail the signed form with the documents in Section D.
4. Email [email protected] with your claim ID for status.

Documents

• Proof of identity
• Proof of Social Security number (card, W-2 or tax return)
• Proof of the reported address (bank or utility statement, pay stub, tax return)
• Joint owners: both sign, or provide a death certificate or divorce papers

What it costs you

If someone offers to do it for you

• No one may charge you more than 10%.
• No one may sign you up before the 730th day (2 years) after the money is handed to the state.
• Any deal must be in writing and notarised.
• You never need to pay anyone to file.
